At Folkestone Ski Club we strongly believe that a club is only as good as its coaches, and we have some of the best in the country! Our trainers offer great training. From bringing on competent beginners, to training racers at National level.

We have also been able to call on internationally renowned coaches. During  2004 we offered Alpine training with John Shedden, thanks to financial help from an 'Awards for All' grant.  John visited the slope and met our skiers, observing them during training sessions.  He then joined us in Saas-Fee Switzerland and coached our trainers. He was very impressed with our club and has become a firm friend. John also coached several of the coaches for the Olympic games. His teams came home with gold medals!

Meet Our Trainers.

Kevin Batchelor

Snowsport England Coach and former Coach Tutor, trained by BASI. He has also served as a member of Snowsports England Coaching Committee and was a ski correspondent, with John Shedden, to The Daily Mail. For three years he was the Manager of Chatham Ski Slope and has also instructed on snow in Italy for several years before joining the Folkestone Ski club. We were reliably told that 'you will never, ever find a better coach'.  Well, they were right.  He sparkles with fun and enthusiasm and infects all those who have the good fortune to cross his path. He is a wonderful role model and everybody loves him. His training methods cannot be compared with others. He has a unique, refreshing way of teaching - and it works!  We are now seeing some awesome results away from our home slope - thank you Kevin.

Dave Lynch

Qualified by BASI. Dave is fondly known as 'Smiley Dave'.  Cheery and friendly- he soon puts the most apprehensive skier at ease. He has even been known to run down the slalom course in front of new racers to show them the way!  He is dedicated and thorough. He also trains the British Army to race and is a impressive competitor himself; boasting a serious ability to compete not only on skis, on a snowboard and on cross country skis; plus he loves ski touring.  In fact he is a very fit 'all rounder' with a heart of gold who you can't help but warm to.

Joel Wyatt - BASI 3 Joined FSC as a youngster. Trained with Dave Rawlings and then left the club for further training. Former Harvey Grammar School boy who became top racer in his age group.

He intends to go far as a racer, and no doubt he will. He is currently working his way through the BASI training and is a junior coach with ESSKiA. He will go far!

Rob Eede

Is the latest coach to join the club. His humour and enthusiasm have meant that he is already accepted as part of the team. Whilst new to coaching for us he has previously skied for Folkestone and by all accounts was a formidable competitor. In fact since joining the club as a coach he has returned to competing within the LSERSA races and seems to have lost none of his old skills or style. Like Kevin and Dave he is also BASI trained.
